Where were the original ethnic enclaves in Cleveland? How did the Cleveland Public Schools’ desegregation experiences impact Northeast Ohio? How can I engage my students in meaningful conversations about their experiences?
This summer’s Teaching Cleveland Institute (TCI) will take place June 24-26 at the main branch of the Cleveland Public Library from 8:30 am – 4 pm each day.
You’ll meet amazing community leaders, engage in powerful conversations, and connect the area’s history to our current issues. CEUs and PDUs are available, as well as graduate hours from Ashland University. Learn more and register here.
Learning Lab Series

On April Debbie Berry, Cuyahoga County’s Deputy Chief of Integrated Development, shared news and plans for a more vibrant and accessible lakefront last Thursday at the first of this spring’s Learning Lab programs. Exciting changes are coming — from Lakewood all the way to Euclid.
On May 9, David Beach, a writer and activist, will explore Lake Erie’s health and biodiversity, which are essential to the region’s success. On June 6, Ali Lukacsy-Love from the Greater Cleveland Partnership, Kaela Geshke from the Trust for Public Land, and Erika Hood from SYATT will explore how we can create a lakefront landscape that is welcoming to all.

Tell Your Fairfax Neighborhood Story
Teaching Cleveland is partnering with Lee Chilcote, a local writer and researcher, to document the stories of Cleveland’s Fairfax neighborhood through oral histories. We are looking for individuals to tell their Fairfax story so that the history of this incredible neighborhood can live on in Northeast Ohio. - Interviews will be held Saturday 6/29 from 10 AM – 12 PM at Deep Roots Arts Experience.
- Attend the “Voices of Fairfax” Celebration on Tuesday 7/30 from 5:30-7:30 PM at PNC Fairfax Connection.
- The histories will be published in a book and all participants will receive a copy.
